Are there any facts that are extremely scary to know?

In the early 20th century, occultist Aleister Crowley conducted the Amalantrah Workings, where he would attempt to invoke supernatural entities through the visions of his partner and medium, Roddie Minor. Crowley (preferred by him to be pronounced like the bird), is infamous for his presence in the occultic scene, titling himself the Beast 666.
The main focus of his work was the summoning of the intelligence known as “Lam” (meaning “path” in Tibetan). Crowley would go on to have multiple alleged encounters with this being in 1918, illustrated (by himself) below:
Look like anything in particular to you?
Lam has been linked to something known as the Egg, which it purportedly uses as a mechanism for inter-dimensional travel or teleportation. This description is highly reminiscent of the Lonnie Zamora case. If you don’t know, Lonnie Zamora was a police officer in the 1960s in New Mexico who, on a chase to pursue a speeder, drove by a massive explosion in the wilderness, leading him to pull aside and investigate. This was only to discover what looked to be two small men tending to an ovoid craft. Before he had time to greet them, Zamora heard a slam like that of a door closing and saw the ship take off, along with multiple other witnesses later on. (This is certainly not the only story of an eggish spacecraft, but perhaps the most well known)[1]
Below is an illustration of what he saw.
Later members did make it abundantly clear that Lam and the modern ideas of grey aliens were one and the same.
Others in Crowley’s Ordo Templi Orientis became fixated on studying Lam and other “trans-mundane” entities (note: the term “extraterrestrial” was coined in 1956, decades later). They made several things clear:
  • Lam itself was not an individual being, just a type
  • Lam is from some other dimension, and studying Lam’s craft could allow members to explore the other dimensions
  • Summoning Lam was only possible through the creation of a portal “in-between the spaces of the stars”
Two other members, Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard (yes, that one; few people realize he has a heavy occult background), involved themselves with Lam in the Babylon Workings in 1946. They attempted to reopen the portal through ceremonial magick* to spawn a “moonchild” and further the Crowleyan agenda. The specifics of the rituals aren’t certain, but the goal they had in mind was to expedite the transition into a new age and paradigm—the Age of Osiris—which was thought to be the event described in the Book of Revelations. The result nonetheless was the expansion of Lam’s portal, as the two were admittedly not as deft in closing the portal as Crowley. A year and a half later, the age of UFO sightings began with Kenneth Arnold’s report of the first “flying saucer.”
In the latter part of the century, the Order under Kenneth Grant cleared up their beliefs on a few more things:
  • Lam is the Great Old One, and is what is actually seen in UFO sightings
  • Lam operates between the Sirius and Andromeda star systems
  • Lam is working to further their agenda, and the UFO phenomenon is a sign of the impending end of our age
So, in sum, occultists in the Ordo Templi Orientis gave the very first descriptions of the grey alien phenomenon in history and of the modern perception of aliens writ large. Additionally, their workings closely aligned with and in some ways predicted the Age of UFOs which brought the concept of the extraterrestrial to the public. All this suggests the notion that UFOs are actually esoteric, satanic, occult phenomena, not ones necessarily of science.
It doesn’t matter if you believe this to be true or hocus pocus, and of course most will naturally choose the latter, but it’s undeniable that these facts constitute an intriguing coincidence at minimum.
And if we are to take this as a little more than a coincidence, then maybe the scariest part is that the results of the Babylon Workings are unknown. No one’s sure whether the moonchild was ever spawned or not. But you can be sure that the rip the Ordo Templi Orientis created is only growing to this day, and that they’re still preparing for what they believe is the imminent havoc accompanying the shift from the old age of Horus, whatever that may entail.
*Many occultists prefer to use the spelling “magick” to demarcate it from the more benign term often thrown around

Extraterrestrials and occultism have seemingly always gone hand-in-hand ever since. For more information, I’d recommend reading this article from Vice: Magickal Stories - Lam
